Half Full Friday!

Half Full Friday is a series of weekly posts that Eyegirl originally started in June 2009.  We believe that a lot of our happiness is determined by our attitude about the things that happen to us.  So by participating, I'm deciding to see the glass as half full instead of half empty; I'm choosing to concentrate on the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives.  The Half Full Friday posts are a way to do just that.  They're a list of the things in my life that have brought me happiness over the past week.  I'm determined to find something good in each day.  Are you?

For the next week, I'd like to challenge each of you to keep a list of at least one thing that brought you happiness each day.  Be sure to link up here once you've posted your list!  (This isn't a blog hop so please only link up if you've participated by posting your happy list on your own blog.  Thanks!)

~I'm happy because...
I enjoyed the garden tour last weekend!

I won a potted plant at the afterparty!  I gave it to my mom.

I made some excellent chocolate chip cookies a few days ago!

I cleaned my bathroom!  I HATE cleaning it, so I tend to put it off longer than I should.

Only 6 more weeks until school starts!  I wish it was sooner...

I got around to visiting most of you this week!  I'm going to try and visit more of you this weekend.

Tomorrow (June 30th)  is your last day to get those dog swap packages in the mail. I still haven't heard from the majority of participants this year.  Thanks to those that have let me know that they sent/gotten theirs.  I've enjoyed reading the posts to see what everyone has gotten so far.  Once everyone has done their posts, I'll include the links here so everyone can see if they're interested.

I can't believe it's been almost a year since my father passed away.  I was reading a book this past week about a father who was in a vegetative state and the family was trying to decide whether to pull the plug and let him go or to let him continue to stay that way.  It was fine until about the last 10 pages or so, when it hit me that the last two days of my father's life were basically like that.  He wasn't really in a coma, but he certainly wasn't conscious.  I remember asking a nurse why he was like that, and she rudely told me it was "part of the process."

I still mostly just feel relief that he's gone; not just for me, but for him too.  No one should have to suffer the way he did.  I really thought I'd feel a lot sadder when he died.  Don't get me wrong, I do have moments of sadness.  I cried when I got to those last 10 pages in that book because it reminded me of him.  I wonder if one day it'll all hit me at once and I'll feel really sad for a long time.  I think about him every single day, and I don't think I'll ever stop missing him.

Monday blahs!

I was supposed to start school today.  There are several reasons why that didn't happen.  I'm sad about it, but it just wasn't the right time.  Maybe next summer...

Got these questions here.  It's an old one but I don't care!

1.  When are you at your best?

I'm at my best when I'm happiest.  I also think that I'm at my best when I'm stressed and have a million things to do in a very limited amount of time.  I tend to procrastinate, so when I know I HAVE to get things done quickly, I'm much more productive.

2.  What albums did you listen to the most growing up?

Growing up, my parents listened to country music.  I didn't mind it as a little kid, but began to HATE it as I grew older.  I'm an 80's kid (yes, I'm aging myself here!), so music from that era is what I love best.  I had a massive crush on Jon Bon Jovi and Bret Michaels, so I listened to all of their albums over and over and over and over again.  I also listened to White Lion, Guns 'N Roses, Motely Crue, Tattoo Rodeo and a million others.  Almost all of my money went to buy music.  I still have all of those albums on cassette tape, and some of them on cd.

3.  If God was about to send a thunder bolt down to earth to strike someone dead, who would you wish for it to be?

This is a very unpleasant question!  I used to really hate a lot of people and tend to hold long term grudges.  As I've gotten older, I've tried to be better about forgiving.  I don't forget, but I try to forgive.  There are people I greatly dislike for one reason or another, but I don't know that I would specifically want them to die.  That's just not good karma!

4.  Show and tell.  What comes to mind first when you see this picture?  Or tell a story if it reminds you of one.
This doesn't really remind me of anything.  This could be an old poster on a billboard or it could be a label on the side of a box.  I googled "New Zealand + apples" and discovered that it exports about 30 varieties of apples and pears.  I did not know that!  So I learned something new today, and hopefully you did too!
*****
Not counting today, you've got 5 more days to get your swap goodies out.  I've only heard from a handful of you.  Don't forget, you need to get a tracking number when you mail your package, and then email it to me and your swap partner.  Once your receive your package, you need to let me know, and then do a post about what toys/treats you acquired.  I wanna see what ya got!

My mom brought over some super yummy cupcakes a few days ago!

I had fun window shopping earlier this week!

I'm going on the Garden Tour tomorrow!  We try to go every year.

I got a new follower!  Welcome!

My volunteer project is done!  We'll meet up to discuss what went well and what didn't, but for the most part, we're pretty much done until next year.

I apologize for not being around Blogville much lately.  I'm going through a very stressful situation right now and I try to keep this blog positive for the most part, so I've kept away.  I really missed everyone, and hopefully you missed me too.  At least a little bit!  I'll try to do better.

I start class on Monday.  It's a one week class from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.  Apparently, the class is broken down into three sections per day, so it's not just a straight 12 hour lecture.  It's about the history of the capital.  We're going to be taking a lot of field trips and doing activities and stuff.  The class description sounds like a lot of fun, so I'm looking forward to it.

With that being the case, I'm not sure how often I'll be around next week.  We supposedly have time in between sections of the class.  I'm bringing my laptop and hoping I can use some of that free time to catch up with everyone.

It's almost June 30th, so if you haven't gotten your goodies shopped for and sent out, you only have 8 more days to get on that!  Don't forget that you'll need to email me and your partner your tracking number.  There are a few of you who aren't included in this rule, and you know who you are.  I haven't heard from most of you.  Remember too, if you accept a package but don't send one out, you'll be outed and blacklisted from joining in the future.

Last year, I posted links as they became available.  I was thinking this time I would post them all at once.

Monday Meme

Yes, yet another one.  I'm taking the easy way out today.  Just because I can.  And because I have nothing to talk about.  Took this from here.

1.  Would you rather have one free trip to space or free international travel for life?

I'm pretty sure my dad would have picked the space trip.  I, however, would pick the international travel.  How fun would that be?  Anytime you took vacay time from work, you could go where ever you wanted for free!  Which would you choose?

2.  What's your middle name?  Do you like it?

Marie.  Never put much thought into whether I like it or not, really.  I DO NOT like my real first name in any way, shape or form.  Sometimes people will tell me it's cute.  I tell them they think that because they never had to live with it while they were growing up.  So I've chosen a different name that I prefer, instead.

3.   Name a time when you got into big trouble with your parents.

Oddly, I can't think of a time.  It seemed like I was always getting into trouble for one thing or another.  I didn't have a very happy childhood, but I seem to be drawing a blank on this one...  As soon as this posts, I'll think of one.  lol

4.  Show and tell.  What comes to mind when you first see this picture?  Or tell a story if it reminds you of one.
My very first thought is that it looks like bubble gum!  After looking at it some more, I decided maybe it could be jelly beans.  It also kind of reminds me of those colorful rocks you use at the bottom of fish aquariums.  And lastly, it looks like these weird bubble things my mom bought last Christmas at a bazaar.  Whatever it is, I want some!  What do you think they are?

~I'm happy because...
I have a job interview this afternoon!

I went to Arts and Roses on Sunday!  We try to go every year.

We had an excellent meal at Applebees afterwards!

The storm wasn't as bad as the weatherman predicted!  My mom lost power for several hours; happy to say that I didn't.

I got the ceremony script completed for my annual volunteer project!  I can't believe how close our big event is.

This has been a pretty dull week overall.  I haven't done much other than attend a meeting and shop at the dollar store.  It's been kinda chilly so I've been staying in and cuddling the chi's.  They're loving it; me, not so much.  I love being able to spend so much time with them, don't get me wrong!

You know how you always think that if you had a bunch of free time, you'd do all these things?  Yeah, not so much!  I have a list of shizz to do and have accomplished almost none of it.  Instead, I've been doing a lot of reading - blogs and books.  I've also watched a bunch of bad tv.

After this last semester, I never thought I'd say this -- but I miss school!  I miss having a reason to get up in the morning and seeing friends every day.  I've been applying for jobs here and there, but not as much as I should.  I find myself coming up with reasons why certain jobs wouldn't work out.  I think it's because I was unemployed for a very long time, facing rejection after rejection.  The longer you're unemployed, the more potential employers question you and what you've been doing all that time.  I just don't want to face that all over again.

Next week will be busier as I'll have the volunteer project to prepare for.  The big event happens once a year, and Friday will be the culmination of it everything we've worked for.  I feel bad because I've done almost nothing up to this point.  I'm looking forward to the big event and then not having to worry about it again until next year.

Blogville Pitty Post Day

It's Corbin's birthday today!  He's celebrating by hosting Blogville Pitty Post Day.  The chi's and I are big fans of The Corbin, so we're playing along.

I wasn't really sure how to start, so I did a little googling to research and found an excellent website - pitbulls.org!  It provides links to articles on history of the breed, training, diet, and also includes forums and groups.  My favorite article is called Why Pit Bulls Make Great Pets.  It clearly states that "99% of issues that arise with pit bulls have to do with owners who are idiots!"  Another article states that, "The frenzy against Pit Bulls is nothing but blind fear fueled by the human need to find a scapegoat.  There is not a single shred of proof that the American Pit Bull Terrier is a vicious, dangerous breed."

The website is a wealth of pit bull info and I would recommend it to anyone looking to raise awareness of their gentle nature.  Another great website is Dog Breed Info.  It breaks the breed down into description, temperment, life expectancy, origin, etc.

My neighbor has a beautiful pitty girl.  She's striped, kinda like a tiger.  I'll admit that I was a little afraid of her in the beginning.  She's been nothing but sweet and friendly though, always coming by to say hello when I see her.  I have no hestitation petting her and giving her loves.  She's most definitely changed my opinion and I can't imagine how anyone could ever be scared of her.  There's not a single vicious or dangerous bone in her body.

Another reason I love her so much is that she changed my neighbor's views on pets.  He was telling me about an ex once, and how she used to play with her ferret.  He almost seemed annoyed it, saying pets are lower than humans and therefore, less important.  Now that he has Roxie, I think he realizes how wrong that statement is.  He adores her and takes her everywhere.

I decided to do something a little different this week.  I'm always telling you what made ME happy during the past week.  Now I wanna know what makes YOU happy!  You can tell me just one or two things or a whole bunch, totally up to you!  I've had a lot of you say this is one of your favorite posts, but hardly anyone participates.  That's totally fine, I'm OK with that.  But this is your chance to join in!

To get you started -- I'm happy my lawn got mowed this week.  It really needed it!

I'm happy I enjoyed some Cheetos yesterday!

I'm happy that I got so many participants in my annual Doggone Dog Swap.  I really enjoy hosting it and apparently several of you enjoy it too, since you came back again this year.

Leave me a comment and tell me what made you happy in the past week!

Speaking of the dog swap, I've sent everyone an email letting them know who they've been partnered with, with the exception of Winston and Winston.  I'm waiting to hear back from one of them to let me know their address and as soon as I receive it, I'll email them both.

I also made sure to include the rules in my email.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me for clarification.

If I've missed anyone else, please email me immediately at glitter.sprinkles@gmail.com and I'll look into it.  I think I got everyone.

Wanna know who joined in and who got partnered with who?
