I'm Soooooo Excited
and I just can't hide it!!!
My birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks. Normally it's just like every other day with little to no fanfare. This year is gonna be different though!
My birthday is Oct. 12th and unfortunately, I have to attend a mandatory day-long meeting for work. Ugh! But - on Oct. 10th I'm gonna go skydiving!!! Yep, I'm gonna jump out of a perfectly good plane for no reason at all other than I've always wanted to do it. I can't wait!!!
This is my present to myself. I'm also buying the newest Postsecret book which will be out on Oct. 6th. I love the website and have all the other books.
So this year will be an excellent birthday! Even if no one else acknowledges it, that's ok. I'll have bought myself two presents that I truly want.
Next weekend is See Spot Walk. I wanna go but I'm not sure about taking all 3 dogs - one very old beagle with a bad leg, a chihuahua who doesn't like to walk and another one who truly enjoys it. Then there's me with a bad hip. I'm thinking I might leave the beagle and the chihuahua who doesn't like to walk at home and just take the one who does. I went a few years ago and got tons of free stuff for my dogs. Unfortunately, I dropped a few of the bags and didn't notice it until I got back to the car so I lost some of the best stuff. Each booth we went to gave us a different bag so it was easy to drop them and not immediately realize it.
My parents are still on vacay. I've talked to them several times since I went to go see their young beagle in the kennel. I decided I would tell them what I saw and experienced and abide by their wishes. They tell me the dog will be fine and they're coming home soon so not to worry too much about him. I can't bring myself to go back and see him again but I've been calling regularly. They said he's made a friend and that they were expecting several more beagles over the weekend. I hope he's doing ok. I truly miss him and still cry when I think about how unhappy he must be there.

Chico
Shiver had his turn, now it's mine! I look like the puppy on the right of this picture. That isn't actually me though, it's a picture Mom found online somewhere that looks like me and Shiver.
Shiver and I are opposites in a lot of ways. He's light colored, I'm dark. He's a "deer head" whereas I'm an "apple head" chihuahua. He's tall and I'm itty bitty. He hates to go for a walk and I love it.
I'm a small chihuahua with a big personality. Whenever I go out in public with Mom, people always stop us and want to pet me because I'm just so darn cute! I'm not very good with children though, I tend to grumble at them. Mom thinks my previous owners probably didn't teach their little boy to be very gentle with me.
I used to live in a cage and was only brought out to go potty or when the owners wanted me to "breed." The next owners left me outside most of the time and didn't think it was very fair so they sold me to my Mom who lets me spend most of my days inside.
Shiver tends to think all our toys belong to him and stockpiles them. I don't usually stand up to him. But the rawhide chews are all MINE!!! I WILL fight for those!
I love to cuddle with Mom at bedtime. Actually, I love to cuddle with her at any time but bedtime is the best. Shiver is usually on the right, I'm on the left of Mom. Shiver can jump up on the bed by himself, Mom has to lift me up.
If anything new is brought into the house or something is moved to a different location and it's set down on the floor, I like to "mark" it. Mom doesn't like this for some reason. I'm pretty good about not going potty inside but ya know, I gotta let everyone know that I've checked this new thing out and mark it as mine.
That's all for now but be warned - I will be back! BOL

Sad Saturday & Sunday
My parents have been out of town for the past 2 weeks and will be gone for about another 2 weeks. I'm caring for their old beagle, their two beta fish and their parakeet. I also go check their mail once a week and check their pond to make sure the pump is running, that there is still water in the pond and that the fish are still alive. They put their young beagle dog in a kennel because they said I was already burdened with taking care of the other pets along with my own. The young beagle is a chewer and they were afraid he'd destroy my house or eat my dogs or both.
I've called to check on the young beagle two or three times now and they always say he's doing fine. Yesterday I decided to check and see for myself. BIG MISTAKE!!! I'm sure they're doing a fine job of caring for him, that's not the problem. I spent about a half hour with him and he just cried and cried. I think he thought that I was there to take him home only when we didn't leave right away, he realized he was there to stay. I petted him repeatedly and spoke to him in soothing tones. Didn't help, he still cried. And when I left, I cried. And cried. And cried. I swear if I'd had my credit card with me, I would've gotten him out of there and taken him home. Unfortunately, their hours of operation where the public can come visit are very limited. I'm at work all the hours they're open M-F. When I take my lunch, they're also closed for lunch. So it'll be another week before I'll get to see him again. I'm half tempted to take an early lunch tomorrow and see if I can get him out. Poor baby. He's lost weight and I know he's incredibly unhappy there. I'm just soooooooo angry with my parents for leaving him there. I begged and begged them to let me take him and they wouldn't let me.
Only one person has acknowleged the award I gave out on 09/13. That makes me sad too.

Meet Shiver
Hello! My name is Shiver and I'm a chihuahua. I look like the one on the left in the picture below only I'm a little redder and much better looking. In fact, I like to think I'm the best looking doggie in the whole wide world! Yes, I really do have a rather large ego!!! BOL
Just to introduce myself, here's a little about me that you may not know:
- Momma says the world revolves around her but she's so wrong! It's all about ME!!! No matter what's going on in the world, it all somehow needs to involve me.
- I'm a big chihuahua. I'm what they call a "deer -head," I guess.
- Momma was gonna name me Avery but on the drive back from the pet store, I just shivered and shivered all the way home. I still shiver when I'm nervous or upset.
- I don't like to take walks. I'll start out ok but then I get tired of it quickly and want to be carried. Momma ususally ignores me and makes me walk anyways.
- When our kitty was still around, I liked to use his litter box on occassion.
- I'm very shy with people I don't know.
That's all for now. Looking forward to getting to know ya'll better!

OMG, ANOTHER Blog Award!
I never thought I'd even get one and now I have TWO awards! How did that ever happen??? Many thanks go out to Tiffany, Bentley and Lexus @ Munchkin Memiors. Check out her "Ear"resistable Ears contest if you haven't already. She's gotten tons of entries, it's gonna be extremely difficult to choose a winner! I've found some wonderful blogs from some of the entrants.
The only rule for this award is to display it and the button below on your sidebar and link to the Purple Hatter. It can be passed on to however many people as you wish.
Button:
I don't think even half of the people I passed my first award to even acknowledged it so this was a difficult decision. After much thoughtful consideration, I'm giving it to:
Kimberly - She gave me my first award.
Checkers - I meant to forward on my first award to him but it seems that I somehow left him out. Oops!
AndreaLeigh - She helped me out with my doggie swap.
Angela - One of the first chihuahua blogs I found. She's hilarious!!!
Protege - Her blog is absolutely beautiful!!!
Martine - She deserves an award after all she went through with Sugar.
It's been a busy week. My parents are out of town for the next month or so, so I've been taking care of their ancient beagle, Angel, as well as their bird, Sunshine, and their two betta fish. That's a lot of pets ya'll, combined with my own two chihuahuas and one betta fish! Angel is absolutely the sweetest but she's old so she's sooooooooo slow and is never in a hurry to go out or come back in. Plus she farts a lot. Not exactly a pleasant experience! Her days are spent sleeping, snoring loudly, eating and farting. Sunshine is entertaining and lively. The only complaint I have about her is that she's messy and thinks nothing of tossing her birdseed outside of her cage. When I'm not taking care of all those animals at home, I have to drive over to their house and make sure their pond is ok and the dozen or so fish are still swimming around. It's gonna be a long month!
My parents also have another beagle who is a little over a year old, he's been kenneled. I begged my parents to let me take him too but they wouldn't hear of it. He's still in that awful chewing stage that he hasn't grown out of yet and they were afraid that he'd ruin my house or eat one of my little dogs. I miss him and have called a few times to check on him. He seems to be doing just fine.
So...I've been thinking for awhile what to do with this blog. I decided some changes were in order because it's not at all what I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be fun and entertaining. Instead, it's pretty boring. One of the changes I was going for was a change of scenery and tried to post two new templates. They were both from pyzam. The first one I tried gave me an error message. It seems that a lot of the templates give that same error message according to some of the comments people have left on their site. So I found another one and this one actually worked. But then I noticed that my pictures didn't show up clearly - they were kind of transparent and it was difficult to see them with the new template. So for now I'm gonna stick with what I have.
I'm thinking of having my pups do an occassional guest post. That'll make things a little more fun. Shiver thinks everything going on in the world somehow has to involve him anyways, so why not include him in this? And of course Chico is wouldn't want to be left out. Thoughts?
