Monday, Monday

I'm a little sad today.  I just read this post announcing that Digby has passed over the Rainbow Bridge and am having trouble fighting back the tears.  I hadn't been reading for very long but I grew attached quickly, as I tend to do.  My sympathies are with his family.

I went to my appointment with the Department of Labor today and came away very disappointed.  I was under the impression that they had an educational assistance program but all we talked about was what I've done to look for work.  I mentioned that I'd contemplated maybe looking at going to school for medical coding and she said that she knew personally of several people who are in that field and are having trouble finding work.  She also said that a lot of doctors are now doing that kind of thing themselves.  I don't know, I kind of think it's just going to be the same kind of thing the other job assistance place did and that was of no help at all, really.  They looked over my resume, I showed them a list of places I'd applied each week and they just kept encouraging me to continue applying to more places.  It was nice to talk to someone supportive but honestly, I can get that from my mom!

The lady at the Department of Labor asked me to email her my resume (I didn't bring it because I thought we were going to discuss educational opportunities) so when I got home, I sent it to her and asked if I could get some information on the educational programs they offer.  I meet with her again next week.  Hopefully it'll be better and I can get more of the help I'm looking for rather than someone just telling me to keep up the good work and apply, apply, apply.

Thank you to Tiffany, who was kind enough to create a button for my Dog Swap.

Also, thank you to Meeko Fabulous for blogging about the swap. Much appreciated!  There's still time to participate for anyone who is interested!

So that's pretty much everything happening here.

13 showed me some love:

You would think the Department of Labor would have more resources at their disposal, right?

I went and read little Digby's blog, how sad. He died from a tick bite, who would have thought?!?

I agree that there wasn't much that the department of labor said that your mom couldn't have. With all that aside, I don't think people are being hired in our area to do medical coding. Boo, I know. Good luck finding work, my fiance is having a terrible time finding a new job, the economy just sucks!

I am sorry dear friend that you had a blue Monday. Sorry that you feel sad about the passing of someones best friend and that the work situation is not improving.
I have read somewhere that actually spring is the season when most people get depressed and i can feel an onset of it too.;)
If it is any consolation, we are all struggling with something in our lives.
Hope today will be a better day for you, I am sending you a BIG hug,
xoxo

That's sad about Digby. He was a cutie. I checked out the blog. My friend is going to school for medical transcription & I think she is going to have trouble finding a job doing that. They are fazing it out. I would think medical coding would be popular as a job. What about a medical assistant?

It's ludicrous how little support we get in terms of employment from our governments - it's the same over here. Back when I graduated uni I had to sign on for unemployment benefits for 4 months in 2001 and 6 months in 2002, and they barely helped me finding a job at all.

I'm really sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. That stinks. Job searching is so hard - I will say a prayer for you.

Hang in there Sprinkles. Things will turn around when you least expect it. That always seems to be the way!
