Half Full Friday

Half Full Friday is a series of weekly posts that Eyegirl originally started in June 2009.  We believe that a lot of our happiness is determined by our attitude about the things that happen to us.  So by participating, I'm deciding to see the glass as half full instead of half empty; I'm choosing to concentrate on the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives.  The Half Full Friday posts are a way to do just that.  They're a list of the things in my life that have brought me happiness over the past week.  I'm determined to find something good in every day.  Are you?
For the next week, I'd like to challenge each of you to keep a list of at least one thing that brought you happiness each day.  Be sure to link up here once you've posted your list.

~I'm happy because...
I had a wonderful Christmas with my family!

I should have DSL before the end of the day!  No more dial-up internet, YAY!

While it snowed several times this week, it either didn't stick or it melted quickly!

I finally cleaned out the filters a few days ago and now my vacuum works so much better!  Imagine that!

I'm having brunch with a friend (possibly more, not sure who all is coming) later today!

Sadly, I still have no plans for this evening.  Hopefully that'll change after brunch today.  I really don't want to spend the evening alone with my chi's.  What are you doing to bring in the New Year?
I was thinking yesterday how this week has been disappointing for various reasons.  While I was busy feeling sorry for myself, it occurred to me that the whole year has been disappointing overall.  I had so many hopes and dreams this time last year.  But with 2011, I feel like I'm actually doing something to change my circumstances beyond just applying for tons of jobs and only getting interviewed for a tiny fraction of them.  I feel a lot better about the coming year.  I'm actually really looking forward to it!

Not having much luck with blogs the last two weeks.  The one I chose for Blog of the Week this week has been deleted!  WTF?!  I was going to post about a young girl's journey with cancer.  I discovered it a few months ago from a post on someone else's blog which linked to it.  I decided one day last week to read it from the beginning and got through quite a few posts.  I didn't follow it but bookmarked it instead and when I went back to it this last time, it was gone.  Very disappointing.  Unfortunately, the blog originator had apparently been receiving inappropriate comments for awhile and the decision was made to pull it.  It makes me sad because now I won't get to learn how her story ends - whether the treatment she receives will bring her into remission once and for all.  I hope she decides to blog again one day because I don't want to always wonder.

It also makes me angry because I don't understand why anyone would leave her inappropriate comments.  She was sharing her story only.  She never once, that I ever read, asked for donations or seemed to hope to gain anything from blogging.  The only thing she ever asked for were prayers.

I just found another blog that looks interesting so I may use that for next week's Blog of the Week

I Hope It Was Merry!

Source:  weheartit
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  What was your favorite gift?  I don't really know what my favorite present was.  I really liked them all this year.  Didn't get the new camera or laptop I was hoping for but I didn't tell anyone I wanted them so no surprise there.

Since my camera and computer don't want to work together anymore, I meant to ask Doris if I could borrow her pictures to show you what I won from her giveaway.  Only I didn't get around to asking and I don't want to just take them without her permission.  But you can still see my goodies if you click here and look at the first prize - crocheted towel topper with matching Christmas towel and a metal Christmas cookie cutter set.  My original plan was to add the cookie cutters to my "various utensils drawer" once they'd been washed and toss the box.  However, Doris added a sweet comment inside the box top and I've decided to keep them in the box after all.  I want to always remember where they came from.  Thank you, Doris!

No plans for New Year's yet.  I'll have to see what my friends are doing and invite myself to tag along.  LOL  I can't believe the year is pretty much over already.  I'm excited to see what the new year brings. Just a few more weeks and I'll be starting school.

(No, I don't do drugs or condone them, I just liked the picture.)
Sorry, not much to talk about today.  I found some pretty holiday pix for you though!

I've gotten some new followers recently!  Welcome!

I received one of Katie's giveaway prizes!

I received George's giveaway prize!

I received Doris' giveaway prize!  It was an excellent mail week!

We didn't get nearly the amount of snow that was predicted last weekend!

I enjoyed some coconut M&M's yesterday!
I've gotten lots of cards from the Christmas card exchange!  Thank you!

A big THANK YOU to everyone for all the wonderful Christmas cards this year.  I've really enjoyed going to check the mail and seeing my little box filled with cards.  I'm really going to miss it now that Christmas is almost over.

I'm sure everyone has probably already read about Hero.  If you haven't, please click here and read his latest post.  He's currently suffering from a nasty bout of Familial Sharpei Fever (FSF).  Please keep him in your prayers this holiday season.  There is no known cure.

I did have a Blog of the Week in mind but I couldn't find the one I was looking for.  A year or two ago, I stumbled across this blog that was all about Santa Claus.  Instead of just posting from like Thanksgiving on forward each year or whatever, Santa posted all year long.  During the holidays, he posted quite frequently and then maybe only once or twice a month the rest of the year.  I loved it because you could check on him throughout the year and see what he was up to.  I had it bookmarked but I switched computers but I haven't been able to find that particular blog since.  I'll admit I didn't do an exhaustive search but I did google it and couldn't find what I was looking for.  It may not even be in existance anymore for all I know.  I was too lazy busy to look for another one and I haven't run across any holiday ones that I wanted to use.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

The Mailman Is My New Best Friend!

Seriously!  He/she has been bringing me lots of Christmas cards and a few pressies!  (I say he/she because all my mail is delivered to a PO Box so I don't have any idea who puts it all in the little box.)

On Friday, I got the first of Katie's giveaway goodies - Ayala's Herbal Water.
Much thanks to Katie for allowing me to use her pictures since my camera and computer don't want to cooperate.

There were six flavors - Lemongrass Mint Vanilla, Lavender Mint, Lemon Verbena Geranium, Cloves Cardamom Cinnamon, Cinnamon Orange Peel and Ginger Lemon Peel.  They also sent a Food Recommendation card, three coupons and a hat.

These were much different from the flavored waters I'd typically buy.  Some of them I didn't care for at all.  I initially told Katie I liked the Lemon Verbena Geranium best but the more I drank it, the less I liked it.  My favorite turned out to be the Ginger Lemon Peel.  It was just like drinking water with a fresh lemon floating in it.

If anyone wants to try this water, let me know and I'll send you the coupons.  Two of them are for 75 cents off two bottles and the other is for 50 cents off one bottle.  They all expire January 31, 2011, so hurry!

I also got George the Lad's goodies from his Birthday Bucket Giveaway the same day.  It took three weeks to get here but I was so excited when it finally did!!!

Again, my camera won't connect with my computer for some reason (I'm thinking maybe I need a new UBS cable or whatever it's called?!) so I used google images for these pictures.  They aren't exact images but as close as I could find doing only a quick search.

My boys fought over these toys.
And when they were done fighting over the those, they fought over the paddywacks!
My house was very noisy all day with their growls!  The paddywacks were all bigger than what they normally get so I took one and cut it down.  I'm not sure if one piece has been eaten or hidden because I haven't seen it since Friday.  The other piece has been passed between the two several times.

George's mom, Jan, also sent me a calendar depicting beautiful scenes from England, a cookbook and two cards.  The calendar is pretty cool because it lists holiday's for other countries.  I'm not sure what some of the ingredients are in the cookbook so I'm going to have to do a little google research.  I'm definitely going to try some of the recipes though!

Thanks, George and Katie!  It was a fun mail day.

I also won one of  Doris' December giveaway's!

I had two participants for last week's Half Full Friday!

I'm still behind on blogs.  Sorry.  Doing my best to catch up.  Slowly but surely...

This week's Blog of the Week is a fairly new blog.  He left a comment on someone else's blog and left a link to his blog.  The name of it made me curious so I clicked on the link.

Scott started this blog last month.  He's a recent college grad with military experience and so far, he's not had much better luck in finding a job than I have.  He's currently working at a temp job that he doesn't enjoy.  This blog is all about his attempt to find a better place in the world for himself.  I can definitely relate and only hope I don't find myself in his same position once I graduate.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I'm very behind on reading blogs and will try my best to catch up today and tomorrow.  I had an alcohol-filled weekend and haven't been home much.

Friday night was drinks with the girls.  And a guy.  We had a lot of fun getting wild and crazy.  I felt bad though because no one said anything about exchanging gifts so I didn't get anyone anything.  The woman hosting the party is out of work too, yet she still managed to get us all a little something.

We played Christmas bingo and everyone in the group won something twice.  We also did karoke.  When it was my turn, I made sure to turn the music up really loud so no one could really hear me.  If it's up loud and I can't hear myself, I think I'm a rock star.  But if it's down and I can, I realize how bad I am.  lol

Saturday night, a friend invited me to dinner at the college campus where I'll be going to school.  It was held in the Sky Tower.  I'd been told on my campus tour that it's really fancy inside and that only people with $$$ can use it.  It was a work party for my friend and a bunch of doctors were paying for everything so I figured that was how they could afford it.  The Sky Tower was nice but overall, it wasn't too terribly impressive.  Maybe in the daytime it would've been better.  The dance floor was really tiny.  Some guy told me each floor has a different floor plan.

Just before we left there, we ran into a few girls in the bathroom who invited us to hang with them at a nightclub.  We didn't know them but it sounded fun so we went only we didn't see them there.  It was pretty dead once the band stopped playing so we headed back to the car since it was pretty late.  Neither one of us remembered where we parked the car and we ended up wandering around for awhile.  We found another club and went inside to use the bathroom.  It was a pretty rockin' place so we stuck around.  Some guy at the table next to us gave me several shots of tequila but they didn't really talk to me or my friend.  They left shortly after.  We didn't get home until after 4:00 AM.

Sunday night I was out too so I've decided to stay home today and tonight and spend the day with my sweet chi's.  I want to take more pictures of them but my computer won't connect with my camera for some reason.  I priced new cameras and they are waaaaaaaay out of my price range at the moment.  Boo!  My price range right now though is free since my unemployment has ended and I'm pretty sure that they aren't gonna be giving any away for free.  Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if it's too late to send in a request to Santa...

I've really been wanting to post new pictures of my boys since I haven't done that in awhile but since my computer and camera don't seem to be cooperating, I'll just post old ones.  Sorry but it's better than nothing!  As always, I apologize for the poor quality.

Half Full Friday and Blog of the Week

Source:  weheartit
Are you ready for the weekend yet?  You're almost there!  Personally, since I've not been working for so long, weekends and holidays don't have the same meaning for me anymore.  Mostly, they're just another day.  I appreciated them much more when I had a job.  But I do still enjoy Half Full Friday!

Half Full Friday is a series of weekly posts that Eyegirl originally started in June 2009.  We believe that a lot of our happiness is determined by our attitude about the things that happen to us.  So by participating, I'm deciding to see the glass as half full, instead of half empty; I'm choosing to concentrate on the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives.  The Half Full Friday posts are a way to do just that.  They're a list of the things in my life that have brought me happiness over the past week.  I'm determined to find something good in every day.  Are you?

~I'm happy because...
Tonight I'm going out for drinks with the girls!

Skeletor got an anonymous $1000 donation for his heartworm treatments!

I got an OPI polish from Sephora for only 50 cents!

The zit currently residing on my eyelid seems to be slowly but surely going away!

A lot of our snow has melted!

I got my classes figured out!  YAY!!!

After listening to my mom continually nag about how I really needed a backup plan for the two classes I was still on the waiting list for, I decided I should probably take her advice.  I spent most of Wednesday figuring out what classes to switch to instead.  The problem is that since it's open enrollment now, most of the classes I wanted to take were either all filled up or didn't fit in with my schedule so I kind of had to take what was available.

So my new schedule is Introduction to Theatre, American National Government, US History and General Psychology.  My school day ends at 1:30.  Now I just have to figure out where my classes are.  Three of the four are in the same building, at least.  My dad said he took Psychology in college and it was very difficult.  That scares me!  But at least it's not math!

This week's Blog of the Week is one I found from an article.  The originator of the site is Bradley Laborman.  It started out as a joke on a radio show and turned into a bona fide business.

The name is pretty self-explanatory -- Bradley will dump your significant other for you for a pay-per-call fee of only $10.00.  When he's done, he posts the phone call on his website.  He's ended over 200 relationships since September 2009.  Not all of the calls are posted and the ones that are have been made anonymous.

In addition to the website, iDUMP4U is on facebook, twitter and youtube and there's also an iPhone App.  There's a book in the works as well.
