August Chewy Review

It's that time again!  This month we choose the Old Mother Hubbard Classic Original Assortment Oven Baked Dog Biscuits from Chewy.  We received a 20 ounce bag of the small biscuits to try.
Chewy describes them as:  Old Mother Hubbard's Classic Original Assortment bone-shaped biscuits include Original, Chicken, Cheddar & Char Tar flavors.  Old Mother Hubbard snacks are a wholesome and delicious way to say “good dog”!  They make an excellent snack for training or for anytime you want to give a little extra love.

What benefits does this product offer, you ask?
  • Natural oven-baked dog biscuits
  • Made with all natural, wholesome ingredients
  • For dogs of all ages & sizes
  • No artificial preservatives
The biscuits are just the right size.  The quarter is there for scale.  They're about the same size as a regular Milk Bone.  Old Mother Hubbard offers larger and smaller sizes as well.  Surprisingly, the small biscuits ($5.85) cost less than the mini biscuits ($5.98) for the same size bag.
The boys have acted a little weird with these treats.  Chico didn't really seem to like these very much.  He practically bounces off the wall when I hand him one, but then he drops it and walks off, leaving it for Shiver.  Shiver won't accept his until he sees that Chico has one.  So Shiver ends up with two and Chico gets none.  The boys give these five paws up out of eight.  Shiver likes them, Chico isn't so sure.  I'd be willing to have them try these again, but we'd go with another flavor.
Don't you even THINK about stealing my biscuit!!!
We were not compensated financially for this post, but were provided a free bag of treats in return for our honest opinions.

Random Notes

I meant to create a post for yesterday, but the weekend went so fast and was over before I knew it!

I started the new job yesterday.  My first day wasn't too bad.  I didn't have a computer so we really didn't do much.  The company ordered the computer but when they opened it up, it was the wrong one.  It should be here today and then I'm hoping to get started with training.  Everyone seems really nice.  One of my friends will be starting there in a couple of weeks, so that's exciting!  Our job is only temporary - they think they'll probably keep us until about March or so.  However, the money is good and it will hopefully allow me to pay down some bills.

I have to commute with this job, so I'll probably limit visiting blogs to the weekend and maybe here and there during the week if there's time.
I realized that in all the time I've had Shiver, I have never once washed his toys.  They were all really gross and smelly, so into the washer they went.  Who knew he had so many toys?  The picture above is only a small portion of them.  After they were all washed and dried, I put them in his bed.  He's never actually used it as a bed so we keep his toys in there.  Washing them has made a world of difference.  He immediately scattered them throughout the house and has played with them a lot more since then.
It's been almost a year since Chico was diagnosed with leukemia.  He's doing really well, considering.  He takes a steroid pill every morning. He still gets a sore here and there and is slow to heal, but nothing like what it was before he started taking the medication.  The biggest difference I've noticed in him is that he's aged a lot in the last year.  The picture above is him in younger years, the picture below is from earlier this year.  He probably sleeps a little more now, but he's still the same sweet boy he always was.

Wordy Wednesday

So I'm not really sure what happened to Monday's post.  I got interrupted in the middle of it and actually did go back and finish it up.  Unfortunately, blogger only appears to have saved up until the part I got interrupted.  Ordinarily I would have fixed it once I saw it, but I stepped on a rusty nail Monday morning and wasn't up to it.  I went to the doctor and got a tetanus shot, and am now on a week's worth of antibiotics.

I have some rather exciting news!  I FOUND A JOB!!!  I start next week.  It's only temporary through the end of the year and possibly a little later, then I should be able to get back with my last job through June or so.  When that's done, I can collect unemployment for a little while.  This new job won't make me rich by any means, but it pays more than any other job I've ever had before so it makes me feel rich.
*******
It's been a long time since I've done one of these.  I was inspired by this post by Four-Legged Furballs.  Questions came from here, a blog which, sadly, is now defunct.

1.  When it might hurt their feelings, how do you feel about telling your friends the truth?

It really depends on what we're talking about.  If someone asks if I like her new hairdo and I really don't care for it but I know that she loves it, I might tell a little white lie and say that I do.  What I'd probably do is try to give a noncommittal answer so that I don't have to lie.  That way I don't have to lie, yet I won't be hurting a friend's feelings unnecessarily.

If someone smells really bad, I doubt I'd say something because I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings.  I've had this experience before where a good friend didn't shower regularly.  I always wanted to say something but didn't know how to bring it up for fear of hurting her feelings.  Fortunately, she seems to have moved past that stage and appears to bathe regularly now.

If it's something much more important, I'd likely tell the truth.  I can't think of an example right this minute.

2.  Peanut or plain?

While I do like peanuts, I prefer usually plain. You?

3.  Is there someone you would like to take your place in life for one day?  Who and why?

I've never thought about someone else taking my place.  Usually it's me thinking about trading places with others who have much more exciting lives.  If I were to choose someone to take my place for a day, I'd choose someone who'd make my life better.

4.  Show and tell.  What comes to mind first when you see this picture?  Or tell a story if it reminds you of one.

Tired Tuesday

I was tired yesterday so I didn't blog like usual.  I'm tired today too and I'll be tired tomorrow, I'm sure.  I haven't been sleeping much these days because I'm too busy worrying and being anxious about the future.

Sadly, not a single blogger entered my Christmas in July swap this year.  I'm thinking now that maybe I won't host it next year so no one seemed interested.  I don't know, I guess I'll have to see how next year goes.  I was late in posting about it this year because I had a lot going on.

I've been lucky enough to have several job interviews the last couple of weeks and I have another one this morning too!  Sadly, none of the interviews have panned out so far.  One of them went so well until they asked me to complete a math test.  I had no idea how to figure out the problems so I knew that job wasn't happening.  Another job that I soooooooo desperately wanted and which would have utilized my degree, I froze up and gave a terrible interview.  It was so bad that I would not have hired myself even!  Today's interview isn't necessarily a job that I want and it's not one that goes with my degree, but it pays well.  It's only temporary through the end of the year - there may be a possibility that the company will hire some employees at the end though if they're satisfied with my work.  It's better than nothing though and would at least pay the bills for the time being.  So I've got my fingers crossed it all works out.  In the meantime, I'm opening and closing a laundromat 5 days a week for $20 a week.  It's literally just that - unlocking the doors in the morning and turning on the lights, turning off the lights and locking up at night.  It generally takes about 6 minutes a day, so really not too bad considering...
